n = -3

n=-3
Heres how I solved it:
10 + 5n = -4n - 17
5n +10 -10 = -4n -17 -10
5n = -4n -27
5n + 4n = -4n + 4n -27
9n / 9= -27 / 9
n = -3

So your answer is correct. Good Job. Here's the work in case you need it.

Hope this helps!

lets see:
10+5n=-4n-17

27+5n= -4n

27= -9n

n= -3 You were absolutely right! it is negative 3. just do whatever it is that you did to get your answer and you should be just fine. don't worry lots of people have had trouble with algebra, but since you're going to see a lot of those problems in the rest of your school life, you'll get used to it. Good luck!
