How do I get my microphone to work? [it's not the microphone, it's my computer]

It just won't work.

First, check to see your plug is inserted into the correct socket. Microphones are assigned to the Pink colored plug. The green is for speakers, and the blue is for line-in devices.

Some microphones have an off-on switch. Amazing how things can work miraculously when you switch it on.

Go to ControlPanel, click on Sounds and Audio Devices. turn up the volume.

If it still doesn't work, click the AUDIO tab. Check that the recording device is defined properly - should be your sound system software.

Do the same for the VOICE tab.

If things still do not work, try contacting Microsoft, or go to the technical support forums on the web. Sorry, I haven't accessed one for some time, so I've forgotten the link. Maybe someone else can help with links?

try to double click the speaker looking thing in the task bar next to the clock at the bottom.

That will bring up a Volume Control if you dont see mic click on Options and click on either Advanced controls and if you can not click on Advanced controls clock on Properties! there is a Mic check box

and make sure that the mic is not muted!

If I could be of any more help, Please feel free to Contact me!

You could do what ( Adam D ) said and also check if the mic is muted.
