He used to be someone I admired, and I still do for his heroics in the Vietnam war. However, he has become little more than a mouthpiece and apologist for the Bush administration. In short, the Straight Talk Express has gone to hell. He now speaks with a forked tongue and out of both sides of his mouth. No Presidency for you John-boy.

1) Either learn what a Neocon is or get off this board. Things here are way over your head.
2) He is a maverick.

He opposes abortion and gay rights (he'll speak favorably of gay people, but it's only rhetoric. In terms of votes on legislation that would favor gay equality, he always votes against it).

The only reason I can see for why he is considered a "maverick" is because he was so strongly in favor of his campaign finance reform bill. And that has to do with the fact that he was doing penance for having been one of the "Keating Five."

He is probably more akin to a chameleon than anything else, constantly changing his color to fit in to whatever environment he is in. He, like many Republicans these days don’t really hold to a solid conservative platform, but merely vacillate between both liberal and conservative propositions, depending on which is popular among the American people.

McCain broke in Vietnam, he did what it took to stay alive. He is doing the same thing now, whatever it takes to save his political azz.

He seems to be sucking up to the social conservatives a lot lately. Maybe he is just as chameleon-like as the rest of them.
