Yes. I would not only consider it, I have done it.
I kept having flashbacks of blackness, fighting, & not being able to breathe & then a feeling of acceptence that I was going to die. I had no idea why I kept seeing this 8 second movie, but I knew something happened to me. It would happen to me anywhere: in the store, while cooking dinner , in the car, while taking a walk, anywhere, without warning.
During the course of counselling, I remembered that this 'little movie was part of an incident of abuse when I was a child.
Going through remembering it was terrible, but when I was done, I was free. Was it easy? No. Was it scary ? Yes. Am I glad that I did it ? Oh, yes! 'Cause now it is over! That is just one example.
Dark secrets that are kept secret have power over you. They affect you and your relationships even though you ignore them. Depending on the secret, it can ruin your life because everything has to arranged around keeping the secret contained. Secrets are brutal taskmasters but they become as tame as kittens when the light of openness is turned on them.
Our darkest secrets are sort of like huge grizzly bears without claws or teeth.. They are big, intimidating, & scary but if you face them, they really can't hurt you.
Go ahead. Face the bear. He is not as dangerous as you thought.

The fact that they manifest in our conscious lives means they are awoken, putting them to rest is a matter of self forgiveness.

That is a VERY scary thought. I don't think I would do that. It just might push me over the edge. But that's an interesting question.
