your only talking about an eighth inch gap...any decent welder can fill that as he/her is running a normal bead. So yeah it's not only possible...but not even a problem

2.25 to2.5
Measure the OD of each pipe Lets say 2.25=2 9/16 and 2.5= 2 7/8 then the radius for 2.25 pipe would be 8 1/16 and 2.5 pipe would be 9 1/16
measure back from cut end 3.75" and mark with wrap around, which equals 1 1/2 times diameter of larger pipe
lay out pipe in 8Th's
since the OD of the smaller pipe is 1" difference and there is 8 sections you will need to cut 1/16th of an inch away from the line on the outer edge to a point on the line at 3 3/4 line Bevel each edge then lightly tap inward until your new OD is equal to 2.25 pipe. tack out then weld seams Thus giving you a built in concentic reducer. These measurements are approx. sence I do not know if your measurements are ID or OD. Do this and keep the integrity of pipe beat it loose it

structural integrity? depends on how much you need and how thick the pipe/weld is. if this is for an exhaust, then no, you should not have a problem doing this, as the guy above me said, it is an easy fix. I just caution that if you do this, you make sure everything is solid or it will break the weld.
