What hijacked you? As a worst case, download antispyware on another computer, then copy it to a CD or USB device and install from there.
Or, run msconfig and disable all suspicious startup programs and non-microsoft services, then reboot and try to download again.

Huh? Just go into Tools > Options (Firefox)
or Tools > INternet Options (internet explorer) and change the address for your home / start page.

you have to be able to do both of those or you are stuck with the problem
