Whew! Calm down now. Let me answer a few things for you.
I am assuming that the "cold" symptom that you are trying to treat is congestion. That is what Sudafed is good for. It will not dry you up. Antihistamines will, but you can't have them when you are pregnant (especially the first trimester).
I am also assuming that you do not have problems with high blood pressure or diabetes. If that is the case, then either Sudafed or Sudafed PE is safe for you and the baby.
Sudafed is a brand name for pseudoephedrine and has been for as long as I've been doing this. Sudafed PE is a brand name of phenylephrine. (The company should not call it Sudafed PE, but something else. But when they have spent multi-millions and decades building brand awareness, they aren't going to walk away from the Sudafed name).
Pseudoephedrine works better in my opinion, but it has to be purchased at the Pharmacy. And they will need to have you fill out a form and show your picture ID to get it.

RE:
sudafed and sudafed pe?
i called my ob gyn to see what i can take for my cold and she said i could take plain sudafed when i went to the pharmacy i took a card to the front and asked them since they kept it behind the counter if this was the plain sudafed that was safe for pregnant women.... she said no that the sudafed that they sell on the shelf was but the only kind i could find was sudafed pe. which does not contain pseudeophedrine. all the other sudafeds did contain that ingrediant. after taking one pill i heard someone say that you shouldn't take the sudafed pe just plain sudafed so what is the difference and why didn't they have a box that just said sudafed. NOw i am freaking out will this hurt my baby after one...

Regular sudafed (pseudoephedrine) is pregnancy category C. That means it is neither recommended nor prohibited for pregnant women. The drug should be used only in severe cases.
Sudafed PE is also pregnancy category C.
Loratadine (Claritin) is pregnancy category B, and that makes it a more recommended drug.
Categories A and B are preferred for pregnant women. Category C is acceptable in certain applications, and most drugs are category C. Categories D and X are prohibited. Category X means it will cause birth defects.

Regular Sudafed (not PE) is suggested by Ob/Gyns and pharmacists. There is a different ingredient in the PE. Although you will need to get it from the pharmacist with a photo ID depending on your state.

I was really not sure about this question, but I have heard lately that Pseudoephedrine was not a good drug choice. I looked it up, so here are 2 sites for you to read.
I doubt that it will seriously harm yoru child after only one dose. I would only be concerned if you started having side effects.
