It's usually actually about wearing white SHOES really before easter and after labor day because white shoes is a "Summer thing"...white also makes you look cold which in winter isn't the look you're going for apparantly :-/

I find nothing wrong with wearing any color after Labor Day, and that includes white, I go right into winter white, and you see winter weight sport clothes in the stores, that are pure white or winter white. When the fall and winter fashions come in,the stores look so drab and depressing, I often leave after a short visit. I have spent some time looking for a winter coat in a color, so far I have found one in red and they were out of the size I needed. Frankly I am very tired of black and gray.As for shoes, that has changed , the walking shoes come mostly in white, and in other colors, as well as black. The fabrics have changed as well, and are now easily cleaned or laundered, so this is not the problem it once was. Enjoy the light colors!

For as long as there's been fashion, there's been the unwritten rule about wearing white after Labor Day. But does that rule still apply? What about wearing black after Memorial Day? Find out what's fact and what's fiction in the Q & A about wearing white after Labor Day.
Q: I've heard about not wearing white after Labor Day and not wearing black after Memorial Day. Is there any truth to this? Thanks!
Janie, Gainesville, FL
A: I think these rules are occasional good guidelines because of the temperature change, and the changes they have on the psyche. You want to be lighter, cooler in the summer, so you'll wear more light, pastel-y colors. Black is generally perceived as a dark, warm color... it's used more in fall/winter collections.
I like to think of it as more of a color guideline, if we're going to use dates. For example, darker shades of teal, purple, blue, brown are generally reserved for "after Labor Day" because it marks a change in season, to the more cold and darker time of year, and vice versa for memorial day.
