i am a result of AI or donor insemination. IVF involves fertilisation of the egg outside the uterus, then planted in the womb with the successful embryos.
generally used for women who cannot naturally conceive.

AI involves sperm being inserted into the uterus to fertilise the egg. generally used for fertilisation when the sperm count is low, and i suppose a more concentrated method is required.

sperm or egg donors can be used for both methods, although not many people wil admit they have used donors. this support group may help with any enquiries you may have

IVF or in vitro fertilization involves removing eggs from the woman and sperm from the man and fertilizing them in a laboratory setting. Children born with this method sometimes were referred to as "test tube babies". Artificial insemination is a method to help infertile couples in which the man's sperm is not viable and he is unable to father a child. Donor sperm is used and is inserted into the woman during her most fertile time. The couple is able to choose the donor based on many factors such as eye color, hair color, and build to increase the chance that a baby will be born with some similarities to his father.

Invitro fertilization takes place in a petri dish outside the mothers body, while artificial insemination, sperm is deposited inside the mother by artificial means.

This isn't for sure, but I am pretty positive that the difference is that artificial insemination involves putting a man's sperm into a woman's uterus mechanically, whereas in vertro involves taking the egg from the woman and combining it with sperm, and then putting it back into the woman.

In in vitro they 'harvest' your eggs, fertilize them, and then put them back in. In artificial insemination they inject sperm directly in through the cervix and fertilization hopefully takes place on its own. In vitro is to be used in my personal case as my husband has a very low sperm count, too few for artificial insem.

In vitro is your egg and husbands sperm. Artificial is another mans sperm (from a bank, for example) and your egg.
