R wipe&clean is a program that will wipe the free space on your hard drive. Search google for it. It has a 30 day trial

Just deleting the files, formatting the system, and reinstalling the operating system will NOT erase the files, just remove the index pointers to them.

Back up everything you want to keep.

Go to download.com and download a trial version of Eraser 5.7 and use it to overwrite the hard drive

Basically, it will fill the hard drives with all zeros(0's), and then fill with all ones (1's)

Set this to do so 7 times at least as this is considered a secure standard (Govt. top secret is 35 times)

Then reinstall the operating systems and backed up files. the other files should be unrecoverable then

Scan your computer for spyware and adware with Spybot Search & Destroy and Ad-Aware SE Personal. It's free and very good.

Here is a great way to make sure.
For this procedure you will need:

CCleaner (http://ccleaner.com)

Instructions:

1) Please press Start> All programs> Accessories> System Tools> Disk cleanup.

2) Please open Disk Cleanup and let it run a scan. After the scan, check all the boxes then hit clean up or delete.

3) Please get CCleaner from http://www.ccleaner.com and install it. Then run all of its cleaners and delete what it finds. You should now have cleaned up everything your ex left behind.

Good luck and have a nice day! Please email me with further questions/concerns.

The only 100% sure-fire way to make sure it's all gone is to wipe the computer. Reformat the drive and re-install Windows.

Just make sure you back up anything you need beforehand.
