Yeah, you can get as good as your practice schedule. Its not a myth. Practice, practice, practice. Lessons are great because they take allot of the guess work out. You may have to sit and work with a technique for a good bit of time to work it out on your own. Whereas a teacher could show it to you.

Lessons aren't necessary to learn to play the guitar, piano, or any other instrument. Most of my family plays as well as my husband & none have had lessons & none can read music. But I do think lessons are helpful & if you have an ear for music it certianly won't hurt you. The only way I would dissuade one from taking any type of musical lessons is if they're not interested in it at all or they just don't have a gift or an ear for music. Music is one of my passions, if you have a talent you should practice & develop it in anyway you can. I couldn't imagine not sharing my gift. Good Luck.

I dont personally think that lessons are helpful, unless as an incentive to practice or look like a fool in front of your teacher. Go ahhead and try teaching yourself. If it doesn't work, just get lessons. Good Luck!

You wont learn anything without doing anything... Especially in the field of music because not everybody is gifted in this field. If you really wanna learn, then you have to study and undergo some lessons from professinals or through constant practice...

My brother is a left-handed guitar player. He got his guitar when he was 16 and he never had a lesson ever! Now he is starting his third album. On myspace he has thousands of plays for the songs on wrote and played by himself.

lessons help a lot. but a lot of really good musicians taught themselves to play. with the Internet you could probably find how to do a lot of the techniques but you might not be doing them correctly so i would go with lessons.

You can learn the basics and some of the techniques on the computer and stuff, but it would probably be best to get lessons.
No, they aren't necessary.
