guilty as charged I'm afraid, but i lived in England and Germany half my life and have met many people. i usually ask someone where they came from because of the accent. i am an American, but because of my life overseas as a military brat i start talking with an accent when i m around others the same or hear a TV show at the time with an accent. i am American, but a Heinz 57 many nationalities, German, polish,Hungarian,Irish, Scottish, British and 3 Indian tribes. i have a southern accent also and have lived where my own accent stood out. so i know how that feels.

How can someone mistake an Irish person for a British...what the hell is the world coming to.....

It's lack of education, thats all and it is annoying.

As annoying as you let it be. Why would you let someones curiosity get to you? Most of the time people assume they can recognize an accent that is why they make those comments. Why get annoyed?

I'm Greek and Brazilian, people always ask if I'm Spanish, Italian, Portugese, Persian, etc...I find it more interseting than annoying.
