I was at a christmas party this past weekend and noticed the brunt of most of the jokes were aimed at a man that was about 5 foot 4. The man handled the jokes quite well, but I found it annoying that this group of guys did not have anythingelse to talk about. I also found the jokes to be somewhat offensive since I am a short women (5 foot 1, although none of the jokes were aimed at us short women) Anyone know why men seem so judgemental of short men? This is not a physical attribute that can be changed like weight, yet short men are teased and picked on just as much, if not more, than fat men. Just curious as to why people think short jokes are so funny. :)

To me It is only funny if no one is getting hurt. Even if the short guy seemed to handle it I am sure that it hurt inside. Some men may put down others to try to make themself feel good. These are not real men to me.

I am the shortest out of my friend group at 5' 6", and my friends do make fun of my height, but they are also real friends and only do it as a joke on occasion, not all the time. It sounds like these guys were not joking around but instead were actually making fun of him. There is a difference. The short guy really can't do anything because HEIGHTISM. If the short guy were to try and tell them the truth, which is that they are biased because of how they were raised by their parents and by society, I guarantee none of them would listen because A) They do not like being told by a male shorter than themselves that they are indeed wrong about this, let alone anything, which leads to B) If they were to admit it, they would be acknowledging equality among heights, which is deemed by most of society as wrong. "Look at that short guy over there not walking with his head down and sulking over his height. He must be compensating. Short men can't/are not allowed to be confident like that." or C) Herd mentality. Better known as groupthink.

Personally, I think that short jokes are mean spirited. It's not like he can do anything about it. On the flip side though, I would never date a short man because I didn't want to take the chance of having a short male child. It's easier to overcome being ugly or being fat you can't do much if you are a short man. The world is mean to them.

I don't know why they would talk badly about short people that way. Ironically, I'm 22 and 5'11". Also I tend to find myself attracted to shorter women. As for me , who likes short women, I would be offended hearing about those comments. I would out of curiousity would get there reasoning on why they would "throw short people under the bus".

They are insecure. I don't worry about it. I just tell 'em what I lack in height, I made up in length! Or I ask them if putting down short guys is compensating for their own short-comings. Either they laugh and lay off or they just shut up.
