It's free. Old, doesn't have the best text recognition, but I love it.

The old sites are often best:
http://www.bell-labs.com/project/tts/voices.html
Furthermore, if you use Windows XP, open your control panel, and choose "speech". Here's where you have a built-in system for this. If you want to mess around more, you can download the Microsoft speech packages from their website (it includes a speech recognition program to save you typing, too), I think the program was classified "Microsoft Agent".
If you want to record these sounds to files, play them, and use the free software "MP3myMP3" at http://www.mp3mymp3.com - it records any sounds played by Windows, and can save them to a file of your choice (just make sure you set the recording source to "wave out mix").
Hope this was helpful to you, and good luck.

If you have a version of Adobe Acrobat Professional, it has a function for reading text aloud. It would read a whole book out for you if you wanted.
