If you want to be able to play halo 2 on the xbox 360, then make sure you buy the 400 dollar xbox 360. If you get the 300 dollar xbox 360 then you wont be able to play it because the 300 dollar one doesn't come with the hard drive you need to play the regular xbox games. You might as well get the 400 dollar one because it costs 100 bucks to get a hard drive. Not only that the 400 one comes with a hard drive, it also comes with a remote, headset, wireless controller, and more.
Note:
Not all the xbox games are compatible on the 360. If you want the complete list of xbox games you could play on the xbox 360, then check http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Xbox_games_compatible_with_Xbox_360

Many of the original Xbox games do play on the Xbox 360, but not all. You can check the list of Backward compatible games at www.xbox.com. Even if some games are not currently on the list they may be at a later date if you update your Xbox 360 via Xbox Live. And I'm almost positive that Halo 2 is backwards compatible.

Halo 2 is 100% compatible with the 360. I play it all the time on line.
Get the pro system ($400). Like others have said you'll need the hard drive to download updates among other things.

The old X-box games only work if your download some info so that the 360 can read the old x-box games. U can go online and download the disk but U can also buy one at Best Buy for about !$30.00. itheres a list at best buy with what games work with the 360. good luck!

yes it will work but you have to buy a 360 with the hard drive, and be sure to have an internet connection, you are going to need it.
