when you have a number of data, you subtract the highest value from the lowest value, and the answer is your range. for example if you had this set of data 2, 2, 4, 4, 5, 6, 8, 8, 12, 17 your range would be 17-2 or 15

The RANGE is the difference between the lowest and highest values.
For example: 100, 93, 30, 30, 80, 100 - 80 = 20, so the range is 20. The range tells you
something about how spread out the data are. Data with large ranges
tend to be more spread out.

The range is the difference between the highest and the lowest values in the set. Ex: 73, 77, 84, 87, 89, 91, 94
highest - lowest = 94 - 73 = 21
Answer: The range of these test scores is 21 points.

In what context? If it's opposed to "domain", then the range are the possible y-values. For instance, if you have an equation
y = 3x
and x can only be 1, 2 or 3, then the domain is {1, 2, 3} and the range is {3, 6, 9}.
If it's a kinematics problem, then it means the horizontal distance a projectile travels.
If it's a cooking problem, then it's the thing you heat food on.
Edit: And if it's statistics, then Angel is right.

the range is the difference between the highest and lowest # in a set of data. 4 example if u have these numbers-
4,9,1,3,4,9,7,10
u would find the highest number which is 10 and u'd find the lowest number which is 1
subtract 1 from 10 and the range is 9
real simple third grade stuff =D good luck!

Range in math means from..... to another....area, as in from point a to point b, or point 1 to point 2.
so the range is from 1 to 25,
or in the second problem the range was from $100 to $1,000.
or do you mean "home on the range and that's from western films, where the range was the wide open western land".

it means the maximum- the minimum..btw the mean is the average. say you take four numbers like 2,5,8 and 10 the range would be 10-2= 8, the mean would be 2+5+8+10=25/4.

The range of a data set can be calculated by taking the greatest value in the data set, and subtracting the smallest (least) value in the data set from it.
