I have great trouble sleeping at night due to depression, bad nerves, and maybe something else.

Antipsychotic meds get me to sleep well, but I had major problems when I get off of them, so I want a natural product that I won't get hooked on, have withdrawal symptoms from, and receive maximum results from.

Also, I would prefer to hear from people with personal experience of sleeping problems, and the more severe the better, since mine's pretty severe.

Thanks for any and all help!

Insomnia (sleeplessness) is due to stress, dietary and medical
problems. By making small lifestyle changes like having a fixed
daily routine, relaxing and eating properly, insomnia can be
cured. I found the information at http://tinyurl.com/jfzpz useful
for getting sleep.

Check out Melatonin, it's a natural chemical your body produces to get you to sleep. I used to use Advil/tylenol pm and always felt groggy and not refreshed. Then my dr said to quit taking those and try Melatonin. Oh my, you don't realize you aren't getting good sleep until you finally do...I won't use anything else. The good thing about it is that once you use it for a few days, your body starts a schedule so you don't have to use it every night forever or be dependent on it.

i have had sleep problems due to stress in the past. i have used melatonin, valerian root, warm milk, all work ok.
right now i use a product called restez, made by a company called melaleuca. it has a combination of valerian root, hops, spearment, passionflower.
how long have you been off your perscription? i would run any herbal remedies by your dr, if it hasnt been that long, because there might be some interactions. in that case, i would try the warm bath, with warm milk. if you have been off for a few months, the herbs should be ok.

i also like the breathing technique..try that, that is always so good for you in general..

if you want more info on the melaleuca, email me..
good luck

The best natural remedy for your sleeping problem is a simple breathing technique! You don't always have to rely on medication be it pharmaceutical or herbal and it's much healthier. This breathing technique is how YOU used to breath when you were a baby - it's how all babies naturally breath day and night (hence 'sleeping like a baby') . It has been used for hundreds, if not thousands of years in yoga, chi kung and tai chi to calm the mind and does not create unhealthy dependancy or have side effects of any kind. It's very easy too. When you're lying down on your back put your hand on your belly just under the bellybutton. Take a slow breath in but concentrate on not allowing your chest to expand or your shoulders to rise. (This forces the lungs to expand downwards allowing your blood to take in more oxygen.) You'll feel like your belly is inflating under your hand. Soon enough you'll realise that you don't have to be tense to keep your chest and shoulders from moving and you can relax completely. Keep repeating this breathing keeping in mind that it has to be slow in and slow out. If you continue to breath slowly and deeply you will soon feel very calm. And if you feel calm and relaxed you don't mind so much being awake, and the thoughts you have are more pleasant, which leads to more enjoyment of your experience until you wake up in the morning refreshed! This breathing technique is natural, it's how babies breath all day and night, and how adults breath when they are in a deep sleep. This is the same exercise as prescribed for panic attacks and works just as well for insomnia as its calming effect influences the psyche positively. Hope that works for you. It's worked for me ever since I started it.

Yes, I've also tried Melatonin. Sometimes I get weird dreams or nightmares with it though.. It you read up on it I guess it's pretty common to get them. It's not all the time though. Take it about a half hr. before bed. And make sure you have 7-8hrs to sleep otherwise you might wake up groggy.....

HERBAL REMEDIES ARE TERRIFIC FOR MANY CERTAIN AILMENTS, YOU MUST USE A "COCKTAIL" , MEANING A MIXTURE OF CERTAIN HERBS, ONE HERB DOES NOT WORK AS WELL ALONE. IN YOUR CASE: CHAMOMILE, TILLA ESTRELLA, VALERIAN ROOT, LEMON GRASS, HAWTHORN BERRIES AND ORANGE BLOSSOMS. LIGHT GREEN APPLE CANDLES, IT IS CALMING AS YOU TAKE A HOT OATMEAL WITH LAVENDER OIL BATH! LIE DOWN FLAT ON YOUR BACK PLACE HANDS BELOW YOUR BELLY BUTTON, BREATH IN GENTLY AND SLOWLY BREATH OUT WITH EYES GENTLY CLOSED...BODY , MIND AND SOUL! ST. JOHN'S WORT CAN ALSO HELP WITH NERVES. YOU CAN PURCHASE HERBS IN TEA LEAVE AND/OR LIQUID FORMS. GO FOR ACUPUNCTURE, START AT ONCE A MONTH. ALL OF THESE REMEDIES HAVE BEEN DONE FOR THOUSANDS OF YEARS!!! GO TO A LOCAL HEALTH FOOD/HERBAL REMEDY MARKET. BUT PLEASE CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR SINCE YOU HAVE BEEN ON ANTI-PSYCHOTIC MEDS...THERE CAN BE CONTRAINDICATIONS

try sleepy time tea at bedtime by celestial seasonings. I didnt think it would work but it is really relaxing. My fiance has sleeping problems, he takes tylenol pm, although I would not suggest taking it regularly.
