Don't do it - to dangerous. Best thing to clean your wood stove pipes is a chimney sweep. Look in the yellow pages. Not only is it safer, but they are fun to watch. We had a chimney sweep clean our woodstove chimney and flue, and he comes wearing a black tuxedo type jacket, black pants and a top hat. It is the only way to clean you woodstove or fireplace flues. Don't even think about using faluminum cans. CALL A PROFESSIONAL.

Burning aluminum cans in your fireplace definitely will not clean your chimney. You can find "flue cleaner" at your local Home Depot or Lowes (or any good lumber co.) to do this job. Usually comes as a powder concoction. By sprinkling the proper amount into your fireplace as it is burning, your flue will be cleaned of the creosote which forms as fuel is burned.
Take care when using any chemicals.
