An Amendment is an addition or a change to something, in Politics and History it usually refers to a change in a proposed law, or more commonly one of the amendments to our constitution. The latter is the most common if you are asking this about a history class. An amendment to our constitution can be proposed by a constitutional convention of the states, or by a vote of 2/3rds of both houses of congress. After it is proposed it must be ratified by 3/4ths of the state legislatures.
