Hi, I am taking ortho-tricyclin low bc pills and have been taking them for almost a year now with no problems. I have one more week of active pills left to take though and I am suddenly starting to spot and have cramps like my period is coming on early. About a week ago I had a couple drinks and didn't take my pill until about 6 hours after my normal time and on top of that I ended up throwing up because of the alcohol (and possibly throwing up the pill). I am just really worried that maybe I am pregnant...my husband and I have a 14 month old and aren't ready for another one just yet! I also heard that women can get pregnant during their period week...has that happened to anyone here? Just curious because my period doesn't start until a few days after it is supposed to start so my husband and I are still having sex until it starts. Anyway, I'd appreciate any comments! Thanks

Sometimes, even though you're on the pill, your cycle can get messed up. My doctor said it's normal, so I don't think you have anything to worry about.
As far as getting pregnant during your period, it IS possible. Sperm are designed to fertilize- it's their only job and they are good at it. (Men who have gotten vasectomies have still gotten women pregnant) Plus, sperm can live for a 3 - 5 days inside of your body, so there could still be sperm when your period is over.

Skipping even one pill can allow your body to ovulate, which may result in pregnancy.

And as far as the period thing goes, generally speaking, most women will not get pregnant on their period, because it only lasts 5-7 days and ovulation normally does not occur until around day 12 or 13 of your cycle. However, some women may have long periods (even up until 12 days), or may ovulate early (as early as the sixth day of your cycle), so it's not impossible.

I had the same problem i'm on yasmin but half-way thru my pills i started and it scared the mess out of me. i wasnt pregnant and it took another month of pills to set my period back on the right track. my doctor said that sometimes it just happens but that i shouldnt be worried. but dont stop taking the pills. oh and getting pregnant on your period, i was watching tv the other day and the same ? came up, she said its almost imposible to get pregnant during your period because the sperm would have a hard time swimming trough everything when you're on you're cycle. good luck..

I'm taking the same kind of BC and that has happened to me before when I missed a pill. It's nothing to worry about just keep taking your pills.

I knew that some do. no longer all are formulated to artwork that way. purely like it says interior the hyperlink you placed, some artwork with the aid of scuffling with ovulation all mutually so which you won't manage to conceive, some artwork with the aid of inhibiting the way sperm shuttle to the fallopian tube, and a few restrict an already fertilized egg to implant. The final one is seen with the aid of many to be genuinely an early abortion, as as quickly as the egg is fertilized, it (he/she) has unique DNA, cut loose the two the guardian, and could grow to be a different individual. no longer permitting the fertilized egg to implant motives it to die. i think of (no longer effective) it fairly is how an IUD works, too...with the aid of no longer permitting a fertilized egg to implant. So it is not purely the pill.
