It's rough to see them in pain. This happened with my son a couple weeks ago, our kids are about the same age. I'm sure your laxative will work. I didn't have a suppository, so I did a couple things:
1) Water with brown sugar throughout the day
2) vaseline on a q-tip put very gently in his bottom
3) This is what finally did it: I put him on the changing table, and held his legs back like he was about to deliver a baby (make sense, right?) and then he pushed against my hands. It worked.
The things we do as mothers...

My doctor told me when my son was born, "Don't be a turd watcher". Parents back in the 50s and 60s used to freak out if their children did not have bowel movements for days. Please don't worry so much! Is she in pain? Laxatives and suppositories sound SO harsh for such a little baby. Try baby prune juice or baby food, anything with fiber. Also, this is a trick I know that I told a mother and it totally worked for her baby. Infant Massage. I am a Certified Educator of Infant Massage with Infant Massage USA, and the "Sun/Moon" and "I Love U" strokes totally work wonders! They are in the book, "Infant Massage: A Handbook for Loving Parents" by Vimala McClure. Or you can take a class if one is in your area, they are so much fun! go to www.infantmassageusa.org to find an instructor.
Hope this helps!

Rather than giving your baby a laxative I think you should check with your Dr. There are many reasons for constipation and likely its something in the formula. Its really unusual for a breast fed baby to get constipated, but I'm sure it could happen. When I weened my son from the breast to formula he got horribly constipated! I would try a formula that is soy based - but again check with your Dr. Soy formula helped my son almost immediately.

My little one is 9 months, he has had a lot of problems with constipation. He eats a lot of both fruit and veggies, but we still have problems. Poor little man, his eyes would bulge out and he'd only have a Hersey's kiss. At my pediatricians suggestion, I started giving him 3oz of prune juice everyday. He is doing so much better. My husband has stomach problems so it may very well run i n the family. Good luck!
PS, if she has been 3 days call your doctor asap, blockages can cause serious problems.

Do you keep prune juice in the house? Try mixing regular ("adult") prune juice in a bottle, maybe an ounce or two with an ounce or two of water and give in a bottle or even mix up some cereal with it. If that doesn't work take her to the doctor cause that can end with a bowel obstruction.

Is she formula fed ??? I think you can give her water at this age, do you have her on solids ?-she may not be drinking enough ? I really wouldn't suggest sticking anything up her bum...put a bit of Corn Syrop in her bottle (just a bit). Give her prunes ?
Someone told me just to use a clean pinky and try to help her get it out. when you do see it.. but that wasn't appealing to me and luckily didn't have to resort to that, the little hole is so small I didn't want to hurt him.

Put Kayro Syrup White corn syrup.1 Teaspoon in 4oz of milk until baby poops.
I used it the whole time my babies were on soy milk.
Do not use dark as this is bad for babies.

try feeding her some baby food--prunes are best but pears are good as well. you could also give her some juice diluted with water, prune, pear or apple would work. gerber makes baby juice, we always used that...otherwise check with your pediatrician!
