the steelers will be back next year, this year was a fluke and the steelers are a lot better then their record would indicate.

They will be better next year and what's more, I have reasons why will be.

First, look at who they lost from the 2005 championship team.

They lost Bettis, a situational player more for moral support than playing ability last year. The Steelers rushing red zone statistics are actually good this year. His loss hurts in the short run due to locker room effects but someone will step up in due time.

They lost Randal El, contrary to what most people say, I do not believe that the loss to the Steelers trick play repetroire hurts them as much as their return game loss. However, Santonio Holmes is learning that it is a good thing to hold onto the ball finally, and with time he could develope well. If not, I don't think we will be hurt too much if our punt returners learn to fair catch.

They lost Chris Hope, in my opinion, their biggest loss. However, Anthony Smith is oozing will potential and Ryan Clark is getting himself better integrated into the Steeler D every game. It will work out in my opinion.

They lost Kimo Von Olhoffen, but Brett Kisel is not that bad, and is improving since he got promoted to full-time starter.

Roth will improve after his health is fully back. At least that is a generally accepted belief.

A big deal is being made of Polamalu's injury but this guy had at least 5 concussions playing at USC, he will come back and play at a high level as he has since he entered the league.

So, once they stabilize from their losses, they will be as good as the Super Bowl 2005 squad. At least that is what I think.

IF Big Ben recovers, IF they find a replacement for Bettis, IF they find a replacement for Randle El, IF they don't lose anymore players to free agency, IF Troy Polamalu is OK, they might go 8-8. Sorry to be so glum but the Steelers have lost a lot of key players. If it's any consolation... I'm a Broncos fan.

I'm not a fan but they will bounce back. They're pretty much always a powerhouse team. This just happens to be an off year for them unlike teams like Detroit in which EVERY year is an off year.

I don't think they'll do as bad as this year, but I think they won't be as good as their 2005 champion team. It's still kind of hard to tell right now.
