Don't buy a thing.....yet. Apple just announced that their iphone will be released in January. I would recommend that you wait for it. It will be useable on any cell service. In your case Veriszion , or Cingular might be good picks because of the way their networks are structured. I used to live in Illinois and know they both work. If you need to buy one now, I would suggest that you visit a product comparison site to compare the different functionality. I used (http://wize.com) to research my new HDTV.

I have Sprint. It works very well. I like the free calls after 7. i also included my son on the plan. He is 14 yrs old. It is a great way to keep tabs on him

Go with Nextel. They have really good phones, and Free Nights -after 7pm, and free weekends too. They have an awsome walkytalky.
Little more expensive, but an overall great deal.

Ask for a "GO Phone." It is a pay as you go cell phone where you can buy the minutes before you even use them and input them in your phone. So you can pay for the minutes with your allowance or babysitting money and mom won't have to worry about a contract or worry about you going over your minutes.
