I think he thought about all the things he would have liked to say but, what has happened he said exactly what he was thinking. He may not think all African Americans are like that, but, he may view some people like that. Does this make it any better for what he has done? No, it doesn't. What he did was still wrong. He said what he felt about some of the people and it backed fire on him. And, he can never take it back. George Wallace (an African American comedian), felt sorry for him because he is a friend of Michael's. Which makes me feel Michael is not a racist-per se- but, he thought the those two guys where acting like 'N's' and that, to him, there is a difference between African Americans and N's'. (I am an African American, and, I do not like that word, but, unfortunately, there are black men that acts like that. Which, is sad.) This is like whast Chris Rock said. He loves black people, but he can't stand 'N's', because they F up everything.

Unless you can get into someone's head, you just can't answer a question like that.

How many times have you done or said something in a moment of anger, anxiety, fear or frustration, that you later regretted when mental clarity returned? We've all done or said impulsive things we'd like to take back. We've even invented religious accommodations to forgive ourselves for this, since we recognize it's a human vulnerability. Fear can motivate us to do the most horrific, unspeakable things.

Not that I'm in any way condoning his actions--certainly he was WAY off base!

But if he meant every word he said, why is he traveling cross-country with Jesse Jackson's entourage apologizing to African-Americans? Barring his frailties to the masses and promising to seek professional help? This isn't the behavior of someone content with his actions, and I believe he's genuinely remorseful.

In hindsight, whether or not he meant the racial epithets at the time he said them seems less important to me than his reaction to it's consequences. The fact that he belongs to a minority group himself, however, leads me to believe he said the words out of emotional stress, not actual belief.

Yes. I also think that Mel Gibson meant every single word he said about Jews when he was drunk. Having a freak out or being under the influence of alcohol allows you to freely say what you MEAN, not what you DON'T mean.

I think he had human moment that he truly regrets having. although he may have just wanted to spill a little anger .. or in this case a lot of anger he obviously lost his professionalism and that isnt cool no matter what you say..or how you say it.. but i believe in a comics right to say most anything ,especially to get the audiences reaction, this just wasnt the reaction he wanted.

Only he knows that. It certainly isn't correct. However to play devils advocate. If you have a fight with your spouse / signifigant other, have you ever said mean/hateful things that you may have never said to them before? I think possibly most of us have.
