Sometimes it's very very bright at the beginning, and other times it's very dark, nearly brown/black. Cycles change and it's normal to observe changes in your flow etc. I'd only be concerned if the discharge a) smelled bad or b) was accompanied by an abnormal amount of pain.

Sometimes the color will change due to certain things. Stress. eating habits, hormonal imbalance. Usually when we get our period a lot of things are happening with our bodies. Thus is why our blood flow is usually orangery to light or dark red. If you have any doubts see your Dr. Could be also a infection.

Have you drank alcohol or taken somthing that may have "thinned" your blood? Motrin can also do this. If you are not bleeding in large amounts, lets say filling a maxipad within a hour or shorter time period then I would just consider this a change and follow up with my doctor.
Hopes this helps

It could be because of something else going on in your life. My period always changes whenever I have more stress than normal, have been sick recently or changed my lifestyle in any way (exercising more/less, change in birth control, eat out more than normal, etc.) I wouldn't worry too much about it unless it's accompanied by a foul odour..then I'd get my butt to a doctor.

You have eaten too many carrots? And yes carotene can actually effect your blood color.
