No! Your friend is stupid! You can listen to any music you want and it shouldn't come with a label!

NO emo is a personality, just because you listen to one band with an emo crowd does not make you emo.

so what were we before there was the term "emo"? dont worry about the labels..if u like their music, enjoy it! Emo comes from emotional.."emotional" music has been around for decades, emo is just another silly label.

according to the band My Chemical Romance, they dont consider themselves Emo..and im def not an emo and thatis my fav band..

listening to system of a down while cutting your wrists is emo.
so is being completly dressed in black with black eyeliner and everything.
but loving great music, now thats just me. If you wanna be an emo fine, but you dont become an emo to listenin to certian music..
