I keep seeing it written on YA. Is it the same as punk or goth? How is it the same or different? I see it with style things what does it mean in terms of style?

funny, i posted a comment on some emo question yesterday...here's what i said then....
you know, years ago when emo was in its infancy, i was trying to figure out what emo was. and at the time, i was informed that emo was a branch of punk rock where song lyrics focused on self-awareness and emotions (hence the term "emo"). i always found that kinda neato.
of course through the course of time, emo has been assimilated into mainstream pop culture, much like it's mother punk rock, and has been reduced to what it is today. i think that's why "screamo" came about, because emo was no longer "punk" enough.
i'm not sure what to think of all this. i have no idea what my idea of emo is.

Emo meaning emotional. alot of people these days are using this term. It generally is placed on people that have given up on life and everything in it. Like thinking fck the world basically. I hope this helps.

Emo stands for EMOtional. It's used to label whiny kids that cry for no reason. Usually guys wearing tight jeans bought with their parents money (life is oh so rough).
