The acid comes from smoke stacks from older buildings and foundries and when it rains, the rain water combines with these small particles to form acid rain.

Google it. You will notice that it ought to say that water combined with certain sulfur smoke particles creates rain that has a pH acedic enough to cause trees and even statues to erode. Interesting stuff... (And the idiot that said it doesn't exist is really uninformed....) Michael Crichton, tho a really great science fiction writer, is really off base on that last novel --- State of Fear... so, ignore the guy, and Crichton. Every scientist now agrees we are in the process of global warming, and changing the atmosphere. Whether it kills us all off, or just moves what has to be grown where is yet to be determined. Watch the Discovery Channel, or go to the channel's web site for further stuff on Acid Rain, and global warming.

When fossil fuels are burned, they can release sulfur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide into the atmoshpere. When these pollutants combine with water in the atmosphere , they form sulfuric acid and nitric acids. Precipitation is naturally acidic,
but sulfuric acid and nitric acid can make it so acidic that it can negatively affect the enviromant .

Hydro carbon is burnt with no scrubber to take out sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide. They combine with water and form sulfuric acid and nitric acid. They kill trees and wash heavy metals out of the soil into water ways.In turn into the Eco-system and all species that live there.Just think about that next sea food dinner you have.

It isn't. It was a myth that was abandoned for CO2 related climate change. Notice how it used to be Global Warming but now it is Climate Change.......because people started to notice it isn't getting colder. Just like people started to notice buildings weren't decaying from acid rain. It's all a conspiracy....seriously.

Industrial areas that spew smoke wiith chemicals are the cause of acid-rain. the chemicals are trapped in the water droplets of clouds, and when they get heavy enough, they fall to earth; hence, acid rain.

chemicals that mixed into the air or contaminate the water that get evaporated into the air and precipitate rain containing the chemical waters i.e Hawaii's volcanoes
