The whole world was in a depression, but the unfair severe penalties that came out of the treaty when Germany agreed to a cease fire, against Germany, became a convenient rally cry for radicals and led to the rise of the nazi (national socialist) party, to take revenge on the parties who convinced them to surrender and then not only impoverished but humiliated Germany, took away all it's colonies, it's seaports and sources of raw materials. In reality, the whole world was in a depression, but like the USA and other economies, it was increasing demand for raw materials, manufactured good and especially armanents (an industry that had been collectively shut down by all nations, when militaries were cut back drastically, after WW1) that brought all manufacturing economies, like Germany or the USA, out of hard times, there is always profit in preparing for war in otherwords. Take a look at countries like Venezeula, North Korea or China, amassing huge military might in ratio to their GDP/population, at some point they will have to use them to justify the expenditure, as no one in their right mind is going to try or bother invading any of them. Countries like France, Russia and China and yes even the USA, that say they want peace, are arming all these countries spoiling for a fight now.

Germany suffered big time because of the terms of the treaty of Versailles after WW1.
They had to pay huge sums of money in reparation payments and so in order to do this they had to borrow money from big american banks to get their industry going.
Of course when Wall Street Crashed, the loans were recalled and germany suffered more than any other nation as it economy was shattered.
This paved the way for extremist parties like the communists and the Nazi Party..led by a guy called Hitler......

One reason was that it was a worldwide depression (partially brought on by trade-wars). Another is that their economy was in a shambles due to harsh World War I reparations.
