My brain hurts too. Hybrid is a cross between two things. In the case of the car it's a cross between gas and electric.

Quote
" Many people have probably owned a hybrid vehicle at some point. For example, a mo-ped (a motorized pedal bike) is a type of hybrid because it combines the power of a gasoline engine with the pedal power of its rider. In fact, hybrid vehicles are all around us. Most of the locomotives we see pulling trains are diesel-electric hybrids. Cities like Seattle have diesel-electric buses -- these can draw electric power from overhead wires or run on diesel when they are away from the wires. Giant mining trucks are often diesel-electric hybrids. Submarines are also hybrid vehicles -- some are nuclear-electric and some are diesel-electric. Any vehicle that combines two or more sources of power that can directly or indirectly provide propulsion power is a hybrid.

Most hybrid cars on the road right now are gasoline-electric hybrids, although French car maker PSA Peugeot Citroen has two diesel-electric hybrid cars in the works. Since gasoline hybrids are the kind you'll find at your local car dealership, we'll focus on those in this article.

The gasoline-electric hybrid car is just what it sounds like -- a cross between a gasoline-powered car and an electric car. Let's start with a few diagrams to explain the differences between a gasoline-powered car and a typical electric car. "

Also ...You can combine the two power sources found in a hybrid car in different ways. One way, known as a parallel hybrid, has a fuel tank that supplies gasoline to the engine and a set of batteries that supplies power to the electric motor. Both the engine and the electric motor can turn the transmission at the same time, and the transmission then turns the wheels.

Now your Brain is ready to really let go.....

A hybrid vehicle (HV) is a vehicle that uses two distinct power sources such as :

1.an on-board rechargeable energy storage system (RESS) and a fueled power source for vehicle propulsion

2.Human powered bicycle with battery assist

The term most commonly refers to petroleum electric hybrid vehicle, also called Hybrid-electric vehicle (HEV) which use internal combustion engines and electric batteries to power electric motors.

The term hybrid when used in relation with cars also has other uses. Prior to its modern meaning of hybrid propulsion, the word hybrid was used in the United States to mean a vehicle of mixed national origin; generally, a European car fitted with American mechanical components. This meaning has fallen out of use. In the import scene, hybrid was often used to describe an engine swap. Some have also referred to flexible-fuel vehicles as hybrids because they can use a mixture of different fuels — typically gasoline and ethanol alcohol fuel.

the concept of a hybrid has the combustion power providing the baseline power criteria so the batteries in elementary words ought to grant for alterations from the favored for this reason are somewhat minimum compared to EV's. the burden penalty that hybrids have is by way of the having actually 2 vehicles, one a combustion engine the different being electric powered. The Prius has 2 electric powered vehicles by way of counter torque criteria of the CV transmission. international lithium elements are somewhat restricted and are almost continuously in volatile south american international locations. no human being somewhat suggested hybrids needed batteries. Capacitors ought to somewhat make more advantageous experience to account for short bursts of power, of route the ability density of modern capacitors are somewhat minimum yet carbon nanotube technologies elements to regulate that. The hybrid theory is in elementary terms an optimization of the combustion engine thereby allowing a vehicle to operate on a smaller combustion engine.

it will be either petrol-electric or it could be hydrogen-electric or any two different fuels. when at a stop or taking off the car will shut down, when it senses the pedal the electric motor kicks in and takes off, when it gets to a certain speed the petrol motor takes over. i hoped this helped.
