The slope of a line is the change in the y value of the line, divided by the change in the X value of the line. Measure some portion of the line, like an inch in the vertical and horizontal directions, then find out how much it rose or fell in that inch, and then divide it by the horizontal inch.

the slope is represented as the ratio of the rise to the length (a & b on standard triangle drawings)

If you mean the slope angle it is represented as the tangent of a/b

If you mean the slope DISTANCE also called the hypotense (sp?) it is simply the square root of the sum of the squares of the other two sides (a and b) .
