Actually, the dictionary states that you can reverse a car. It is not only a gear on the car (noun), but also an action (verb). Example: "I have just reversed my car." Another example: "I am reversing into a parking spot." You can also back a car up. It just depends on which you prefer to say.

You reverse a car's direction. Once it has been reversed, you back it up.

I would think that you would have to first move forward to reverse something. But if you want to jump in and back the car up...thats different. Now to back up a computer.....wellll...thats a different story.

STICK SHIFT: press the clutch and shift to "R" and press the gas gently
AUTO: change the gear(stick thing) from where it is to "R" (EX: D up to R), and press gas gently
if your up a hill, let gravity do its thing....
if your up a hill, and the car's front is point to the bottom, switch to "N" and enjoy the death trap ride.
