when you are writing a essay do you include a title?

i assume this means an essay you are writing for a college application. the people who answered above think it's for a paper you're writing in college.

if it's a personal statement in response to a question, i would not suggest beginning with a title. they've asked you a question, and you answer it. if, on the other hand, they say "write an essay," you might want a title. i've never seen that, though, so in general i'd say don't give a title.

The title provides an opportunity to catch the readers interest and to help establish the issue you are discussing.
