Start with Nirvana or Green Day... I started with Green Day - Are We The Waiting last may, and mastered that song within 2 days, then I learnt Lithium by Nirvana, which was also very easy to learn.

Keep your nails short. Practice a lot! Get someone to just show you how it works. Even if you have to go to a guitar store and ask someone to show you SOMETHING (anything), then do it. Where I got my guitar, the guy taught me an E major, and that made things suprisingly easier. Invite a friend over and get them to show you something.

And if you need motivitation, Kurt Cobaine (late guitarist for Nirvana) learned how to play guitar 5 years before releasing their first album. I mean in five years, you could release and album if you stick to it.

You will not (absolutly WILL NOT) find switching chords easy in the begining. You will not get the timeing right on track with the original artist in the beginning either. I started learning in May ('06), and I am the guitarist in a band right now, so... STICK TO IT!!

Good luck, and call me when you're rich and famous.

I have played guitar for 5 years now. What I did was take a course in guitar for high school, and I also started out on electric (I still have that same guitar). It takes practice to switch chords, becasue even I can't switch from a C to a D to F-Minor without having troubles. It just takes determination, HOURS per day of practicing and intention.

The best way to learn how to switch chords is to just try switching chords as fast as you can. Over time, you will get better. There is no EASY way to learn. The way I did it was, I closed myself in my room and played for hours on end figuring out how to play songs I liked by playing along to the radio or my albums. I knew a guy years ago who did the same thing only I guess he had more hours (no life) than I did. He learned how to play lead guitar in like a month! The only thing is, his leads were real shallow, no feeling, like he was just going through the motions. All in all, it just takes time. How much are you willing to spend?

Don't worry dude, it will take a while. Get the tips of your fingers calloused up so it doesn't hurt to press down. Also get a lower gauge of strings like 6 or 7's. And just practice alot. That's pretty much it. Good luck.

Start off with nirvana, it's just simple shapes. Play consistently, and make sure you know simple chords like Em, G and D.

use powertabs my friend. Its like reading Tabs/Music to you so you know what to play, when to play (like notes), and hear the music being played towards you.

Also get guitar pro. That is the single BEST program for begginers or Masters. GOogle it.

I only just got started a short while ago. I've been playing for 3-4 months.
The best answer I have for you is get a teacher if you don't already have one?

Practice practice practice... it's all about muscle memory in your hands. When you think you have had enough practice....give up because you will never learn. I have been playing 27 years and I still practice daily. You need to enjoy practicing to get good :-) Enjoy it
