Hmm. It seems an obvious idea BUT eBay is pretty ovbersubscribed these days...but if your art has something that appeals to the masses you've a good chance of making a few bucks.
However - you need to decide if you are going to stick out for a set minimum price - in which case you might sell nothing - or risk letting it go for whatever it attracts - in which case you might have to let it go for a song.
What is most important to you - selling the art, or making some money? (Note - make sure you know how much it will cost to mail it! before you advertise!)
A few years ago some guys did quite nicely on the auction site - but it is getting tougher to turn a decent price - unless you have an exceptional talent and/or a tendency to produce art that has a wide appeal. (having said that I have also seen utter tosh selling for more than you would imagine)
Try it - but be prepared to be disappointed.

If you think you are up to it, and you've got the skill, I think it would be an excellent idea. If it works out, you could even start a business and become a well known member of the art community. Not only should you enjoy doing something you like for a living, but you may find yourself with a nice money making business. I would suggest you use a site other than EBay though, because you don't always get a good sale price for your work, so try surfing for a good, reputable art sale site such as http://www.deviantart.com. Good luck!

Not if you want to make money. Ebay is a glorified jumble sale and people there always want something for nothing. I was selling a brand new 18ct gold ring worth about £800 and this guy emailed to ask if I would accept £100 on the first day I advertised it... cheek!
If you have to sell it advertise it on a buy it now basis at the price you want to sell it for. If you allow bids you could end up with it being sold for £1.00 and when that happens it is very annoying!!
Why don't you set up your own website and advertise you work that way...??

No, it's not. Unless you're someone relatively famous, art just doesn't sell well on there. Having said that, if you're a painter then you have a better chance of a sale.
You'd be better off signing up to a few online groups and galleries and doing it that way. Or set up your own website.

you want to take a close seem at some paintings on eBay. a lot of it would not promote in any respect. i have seen some reliable products purely sit down there for the finished seven days and do not something. some products that do promote nicely are frequently off the wall stuff or have a topic that someone is searching for. i have seen some products that were painted round Lovecrafts thoughts do ok. time-honored style of paintings in many situations does no longer something.

I think it could be a good way to get known and highlight your work, you may want to start a blog to show your art on, put a link to your blog on ebay to have a bigger effect
