First suggestion: Take a class or find a friend. Check your local college for music theory classes, or convince a musically apt friend to teach you. The basics of theory are fairly simple, but it gets tricky quickly.

Second suggestion: Go to your local music store (look for a store that sells instruments and sheet music, not CDs) and ask them to recommend a book or two. There are all sorts of books out there that teach theory. If you have a friend teaching you then you can use the book as the starting point.

Most of the stuff online is just trying to get you to buy something. It would be better to talk over what you already know with someone at a music store. It sounds like you already have some musical knowledge so they can get you started at the correct level.

Good luck!

EDIT: Hey again! I actually found a site that could be helpful. I still recommend working with someone who can teach you, but this could also be a good resource: http://www.teoria.com/
