My husband and I are a young couple just starting out. We just had a baby and are going to get her baptized next month. With the holidays coming up and alot of bills that need to be paid we have hardly any money to spend on the gathering afterwards. For our wedding I made all the food myself and we rented a room in the church and that kept costs low for the most part. Only thing is that room won't hold the amount of people we have coming to this event. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on places that rent space cheap and what I can do to keep costs down as much as possible. Our budget for a space can't exceed $150. Any and all suggestions are appreciated. Thanks

As far as a cheap or even free place to hold your event is the hall at the church where you got married and are getting your baby daughter baptized at.Talk to your preacher/father/reverend about your needs and hopefully they will offer you the hall for free or on a sliding scale according to your budget. As far as the food make what you can yourself and involve your family and your husbands family to help you with the rest.If the hall at the church will not accommodate all your guests try checking other churches in your diocese as to whether or not they have a hall big enough to suit your needs. Congratulations on the birth of your daughter and may your marriage grow and become stronger with each passing day.

I don't know where you are but, a lot of botanical gardens have rooms that you can rent out for receptions and they are usually pretty reasonable.
Also, apartment clubhouses are good.
It's cheap at the VA Hall or Elks lodge they rent out rooms all the time.
Check a rec-center or community center.
If it's warmer where you're at, go to a park and cook out.
Ziti is really easy to make and cheep. You could pair it up with salad and garlic bread. Cheap.
Also, Sam's sells in bulk if you want appitizers, they have a great selecion. I spent about 200.00 there for my husbands 40th bday and we had shrimp, meatballs, wings, cheese cubes with olives and ham on toothpicks, chips and gucamole and queso, cresent rolls with little weenies inside, quiche. It was yummy and a variety for everyone.
You can have a potluck party.
Mexican buffet with tortillas, gound beef, tacos, beans, rice and all the fixin's. That would be cheep.

you could check out local community centers or event halls, maybe a banquet hall could do it for cheap, just call around, and as for the cost of food have a pot luck and have everyone bring an easily prepared dish under a certain cost, say like finger food or appetizers, i dont know exactly how many people you plan on haveing but they shouldnt be that disappointed if its a little cramped they should be very understanding of all the circumstances such as new baby and holidays, not sure if i was much help but good luck.

Usually in every city there is a whole slew of "fraternal lodges" which could have names like "the polish club" or "the moose lodge" - whatever. Some are religious or nationally inclined and some are military or just whatever. Well, all these groups have spaces which they constantly offer to the public with advance reservation at a fraction of the price of any hotel or professional establishment.

Maybe you could find somebody who has a farm or some type of acreage who would be willing to let you rent it out. There is also the option of having somebody sponsor a space for you.

Do you live in apartment complex? You can rent out their clubhouse for that price. Or yet, even a small ballroom inside a hotel will do it. Also, it's a good idea to welcome guest to bring 1 dish, making it a potluck. That way, you won't have to spend much on food either.

If you're just starting out, there is no reason why you can't ask people to bring things along!!

I am going to be getting married in July, so I understand what it's like to not have much money.

Just ask people who are coming to bring a covered dish, or something like that!

Most would be happy to help! :)

Good luck!!

rent the place for the party and on the invitation state that this is a pot luck party, so ask them to bring a dish with them...or send a list of foods that you would like and have them sign up for each item

you should have a potluck. it usually works out great. people bring food and other important things like plates and napkins. you might want to organize it so that people don't bring the same thing. you could also make it a fun friendly competition... see which guess brings the best dish.

You can make some awesome pasta with some loves of French Bread. or you could supply the meat and ask others to bring salad fixings. One person can bring lettuce, another tomatoes, another onions, another dressing crutons, bacon bits or whatever. You can supply dessert too
