Find a hard drive enclosure kit (cheap at BestBuy or FutureShop), remove your IDE hard drive and plug it into a computer using the enclosure kit.

Scan the hard drive for viruses in order to clean everything. Then, copy all the files you need on the auxiliary (secondary) computer, which you are using to scan the hard drive of your first computer. Put the hard drive back into the first computer.

Boot under DOS and type in (without quotes)

"fdisk /mbr"

That will clear out the "Master Boot Record", a series of commands given to your computer when it boots up and bring it back to the original Windows version, ensuring that after reinstallation of your computer, no viral elements can subsist from the previous instance of Windows.

Then, reformat the hard drive using a low-level format method, such as the non-quick version of NTFS format used when installing Windows XP.

All your files will have been recovered. Your system will be clean.

Keep your anti-virus software up-to-date, and you should be fine.

Have no fear, Your IPod is safe. I would find it really hard to believe someone would have the knowledge to program a virus that would work on both a win32 kernel, AND an ipod system, which is a whole different system and language. Run a couple different virus scans on your computer, and if the virus still exists, DELETE ALL YOUR SYSTEM RESTORE POINTS, i cannot stress this enough to some people, but MANY viruses nowadays store themselves in system restore files, i highly reccomend you disable system restore, i do it on ALL my systems. Viruses thrive in it.

ALSO!!! I got to thinking, DO NOT TRANSFER ANY FILES ONTO YOUR IPOD until you get your virus cleared up. If you transfer infected files to your ipod, it may not affect the ipod, HOWEVER if you transfer them back to your computer, then you could in theory re-infect your computer. BE CAREFUL, remember how you eliminated your virus because some will come back through stored files on yoru system.

it shouldnt due to the file system an iPod uses but i personaly wouldnt take that kind of risk.
locate the problem first by using a program such as Bullguard AV
your limewire downloads default directory is
my computer > c > documents and settings > the user name > shared
try to see if there is anything there before coming to a complete decision that it was a virus that caused this and not program error or hacking attempt

It's really unlikly since the virus semmed aimed at your computer anf i doubt the virus is ipod compatible. However to be on the safe side run an antivirus program like norton or mcaffee to make sure the virus is gone.

either do a system restore or reformat your computer. I'm not sure if there are viruses for Ipods, but I might be wrong. Better clean your comp/system restore/reformat first. Preferably system restore because it'll take your computer back to a specific date like everything was the exact same.

This happened to my laptop, it crashed with all my itunes on it. When I connected to my desktop computer, my ipod transferred all of my purchased to it. For some reason it didn't transfer other songs I didn't pay for (like stuff on limewire). I am using iTunes 7.0.1

there are people out there who can help you recover data..have yout gotten rid of the virus, cuz you said it had a virus...the reason for software like Norton etc. did you have any protection at all? it's a good idea to save your important files on a flash drive or at least a back up disc. that way you can reformat your hard drive with the recovery disc...then reinstall everything..good luck to you!

If your computer is still infected, it is possible. Run a virus scan and make sure it is gone before you do anything else.

You iPod does not run program like Windows...it is at no risk what-so-ever.

Before you FORMAT your harddrive, try booting off a Live-Linux restore disk and backing up your media and other data:
