The origin of the name is Hebrew, which is why it is easily mistaken to be Arabic since much of the Arabic language is taken from Hebrew and Aramaic, and it means Noble, Descender.
other might say it is old German name meanin 'all'
In French the name is 'Aloin', which also means Noble.
