Emperor penguins do enjoy, as you would expect from similar fauna, a longer life span on average than their more diminutive kin. As a rule, larger species outlive smaller within the same genus.

Emperor penguins can attain an age of 15 to 16 years if they remain useful members of the colony. Otherwise, they are wrapped up in dirty sealskin, beaten soundly with heavy paddles, and set adrift on an ice floe.
