hey there tweetie babe, right, now reindeer's need fuel too , they hav to pull the big guy n the pressies! Now blitzen n the rest of the crew like the cow juice, tis a know fact! N everybody likes cookies, Santa has to keep his figure u know! Anyway its his break away from home as mrs clause puts the poor guy on a diet of salads n slim fast the rest of the year. Meat makes the reindeer's smell bad n he sits behind them, n cake, well he doesn't like icing, sticks in his beard! Merry crimbo x

the milk and cookies thing is american aint it? here in the good old U of K (uk) we put out a minced pie and rum/sherry for him so he can get fat and drunk like we all remember from our childhoods (although we now know it was dad being fat and drunk in a santa suit)

we also leave raw carrot for the reindeer.

did anyone else hide and try to catch santa at it??

because milk and cookies hold out longer. meat would turn cold and tough if santa doesn't get there in time. and cake is too messy. cookies are more...i'd say...efficient for santa who is always on the go!

Milk is to give Santa stamina to deliver all the christmas presents in one night and cookies are not to heavy on his stomach to make him feel full up and maybe feel sleepy which would make him slow down and he would be hard pressed to deliver the christmas presents.

The tradition in the UK is to leave a glass of sherry and a mince pie.

I do not know the background of this tradition, but I'm sure there are lots of different traditions throughout the world.
