My guess is because we assume that all Muslims are like the terrorists. And that's really sad. It's a crappy steriostype. Just like in Christianity and Judaism, in Islam there are the conservatives and the radicals and everyone in between. Unfortunately the terrorists are the radicals and everyone assumes that all Muslims are that way, too.

Is this the current stereotype going around about Americans? That's so sad. I'm an American who has had some Muslim friends. The Muslims I knew were regular people. I didn't hate any of them.

I would be very shocked if I found out that my other friends hated Muslims. I can't imagine that most Americans hate Muslims. But then again, this is a big country. Perhaps I'm being naive.

I think it's not really so much that they hate muslims...some americans are racists but others not. The problem is the truth is hidden and the media projects only 10percent of the truth.
After 911 all has been blamed on Muslims which is absurd. U can't judge all people by religion. What they need to see is the group involved and not the religion. Religion is abused to brainwash people in order to form little cults.
However Islam teaches peace and not war. I say what people don't know is what they fear. What is anger? Fear of the unknown.

If I were you I would rephrase your question to, "Why do many Americans and British hate Muslims?" Because clearly not all British and clearly not all Americans "hate" Muslims.

What some of them do hate is a group of terrorists that say that their godly mission is to destroy the Western civilization as we know it for no other reason than to gain their power hungry greedy Koran driven pursuits. And this is a problem to many people.

Because they represent a violent faith and culture, and believe that other countries based on christianity must bow to their religion or suffer the consequences. This may not be the truth but it is the perception of most american and british and canadian people, and since perception is what we base our lives on then we will all react this way. It is not our problem it is a muslim problem. They blame it on extremists, however they do nothing about them. And as our news shows us, millions of muslims want nothing more than to kill infidel westerners and christians....how could we not believe that muslims live a culture of death and violence...if they want us to change our perception, then they need to stop their own extremists, or suffer the hate. It`s up to them.

It is not a hate of the people or their faith. It is a hate for those few extremists that kill innocent people and force their values with road side explosives and rocket propelled grenades, not to mention the ak47s and sks.
Most Americans believe in the religious freedoms and to follow the faith of your heart. Islam is not to blame. people are.
The ones that are truly making a religious war out of this are fools!
Those that are screaming for jihad are fools as well.
To fight for your family and safety is a good reason to fight. The only reason to fight!
But to blame the faith of so many good people for your fears or the actions of zealots is stupid.

We dislike people who chant about destroying our civilisation, people who murder innocent people of their own religion (Albiet different sects, as in Iraq) and we aren't too thrilled at the prospect of being blown up by someone who thinks they are gonna get a harem of virgins or little boys in heaven because they did so. That said I have interacted with many Muslims without any ill-feelings either way.

We just don't like the radical ones that blow them selves up in public killing hundreds of people.
