Don't know anout limestone, itis quite a porous stone and most dirt will soak in and be impossible to move. Marble reacts well to linseed oil.

Others step aside - I'm the marble-cleaning queen! I used to clean marble showers in apartments and have spent untold hours on this. I'm assuming you mean fabricated marble.... Use a commercial cleaner that is safe on marble (there are plenty out there), a scrubby pad, and ELBOW GREASE (since marble can't take harsh chemical cleaners, there's really no other way). Do a small section at a time. A razor blade (in a holder) works great on soap scum and deposits, as long as you're careful. Once clean use a polish or wax (car wax works great) to coat and protect it. If it's shower walls, buy a plastic squeegee and wipe the walls down after each shower. It only takes a minute but will keep the walls clean indefinitely.

Not sure about limestone, but marble should be cleaned by rubbing with a cut fresh lemon and then wiping off with a damp cloth. I think you should leave the lemon on for about half an hour.

Not sure about limestone but having worked with marble I know for certain that lemon juice removes stains and keeps it clean.

Since you are limited on cleaners...I have found the new dishwashing pads (pads with dish soap already in them-just add water) work great. Several brands have a pad with a smooth side and a rougher side, which works just like a scrub brush. It makes it very easy to clean and scrub at the same time. I use this on my travertine stone & marble shower.

Either steam clean or try Vinegar. It is great for all sorts of cleaning.

Technically it is very difficult to remove stains from either one. Other than than, a mild soap and lots of water.
