Don't worry too much about how professional it will look. Don't think too much of special effects too.

If most viewers were honest, they would say that a decent story and good acting would entertain them more than anything else. Look at the film 'Monty Python And The Holy Grail'? They couldn't afford horses in their small budget so they literally pretended they were on a horse and clapped coconuts together. It turned out to be the funniest film of all times in many surveys. It doesn't matter if you didn't like this film, the point is, is that it entertained millions of others.

I used to make silly fighting films when I was in my teens. All I used was an audio-dub button to dub 'punch' noises. It looked boring! SO WHAT DID I DO? I thought hang on, it's not the equipment, it's the character! I'll change him into an easy cry-baby. My final result was my friend kicking and punching me while I screamed and sobbed like a 6-year-old and it looked extremely funny and entertaining. I decided to use the video as a portfolio to get in this 'HND of Television' course at Uni - as I had no qualifications to get in the normal way. They let me join the course because they liked my imagination, characters and story. I suppose the key to films being sucessful happens to be those three words.

There is one good tip I can give you, buy as much balsa wood (or find some) and vanish it darker. Then you can karate chop it or build a chair and smash it on your friend's head.

Good luck! Most importantly, enjoy yourselves and NEVER take it too seriously as it will show on film.
