There isn't a specific street which is the centre of The City. If you need one, I suppose Threadneedle Street where the Bank Of England is would be the one most people would associate with The City. Bishopsgate is a long road with many major financial companies.

There is no single street that is considered the "heart "of the financial district in London.
The Bank of England is situated on Threadneedle Street, but the street itself is not that well known..the phrase "The City" is used almost all the time to specifically refer to the financial area.
Fleet Street is known only as the traditional home of the newspaper industry, and Regent Street is simply a shopping street and is in the West End, not the City.

"The City" IS the London equivalent of Wall Street, sorry if that isn't good enough for you.
When you hear the business news in the UK you'll hear a phrase like "let's take a look at what's been happening in the city". Just like you'd hear "let's take a look at what's been happening on Wall Street" if you were watching the news in the US.
It is definitely not Fleet Street or Regent Street.

A lot of the bigger banks (Morgan Stanley, Citibank, BONY, CSFB, HSBC, Bank of America, Lehmans and Barclays) are all at Canary Wharf these days. Goldmans is still near Fleet Street, and ABN Amro and Deutsche Bank are up near Liverpool Street. The growing trend over the last 20 years has been for the the bigger banks to move out to new offices at Canary Wharf, because all the old buildings in the City just don't have room for thousands of staff (because they're so old, they're not really allowed to knock them down and start again).

Fleet Street is the street associated with the British Press. As I recall, Regent Street is the heart of the business/investment community.
