Are anorexic people the ones that look in the mirror and see that they're fat but they're really not?

Well anyways I think I have the opposite of that my sisters and mother are always telling me how fat I am but I look in the mirror and I don't see a very fat person. don't get me wrong i'm not naive I know i'm over weight but I wouldn't go so far as to say I'm huge and that's how they make it seem.

Good question. I think you have a healthy self-esteem and it is ashamed that those closest to you don't try to build you up more than tearing you down. The truth is however, being overwieght, even a little bit, is dangerous to our health. And keep in mind, it is harder to lose the older you get. Being that you have such a healthy outlook on yourself, maybe you could focus on making yourself better by making a pact with yourself to exercise 3 times a week. That way you are not yoyo dieting which is bad too. Keep your posative outlook on life. If more girls had your attitude we would have less eating disorders, suicides and teen pregnancies. Good luck with exercising.

As long as you are happy with yourself don't worry about what anyone else says. The most important thing is for you to be happy. Maybe they are saying that to you because they are unhappy with themselves and you aren't. So they think if they call you fat you will feel like they do. Don't fall for it though. How can a mother tell her child she is fat? I mean come on. Isn't it hard enough to grow up in this world with the classmates the way they are but to go home to a mother who would call her child fat is terrible.

Well, over weight and being fat are totally different from each other. They might be saying you're fat because you're the biggest among your family but in the outside world you're not. I feel the same way as you do. My mon and my sis always tells me that I'm fat but I believe more than anybody else to myself so I just take their words as a joke. Because I do know that I'm slim.

I think I have the same problem. I told my dad I wanted to gain some weight because I think I'm too skinny. He says I'm not too skinny and that I don't need to gain weight. He doesn't call me fat, he just feels I shouldn't try to gain weight. I still think I'm too skinny so maybe I have the opposite of anorexia.

Yes, it is possible to have abnormal body image by thinking you're thin when you're not.
In your case, it's possible that your mother and sisters are the ones with abnormal expectations about body image.
I think the best thing would be to make sure that you are healthy. See a nutritionist, doctor, and/or personal trainer to make sure that you are living a healthy lifestyle. Then don't worry about what others say.

I think it's great that you like what you see in the mirror even if your family doesn't agree with you. However, they may be worried about your health if you are truly obese. Ask your mom to take you to the doctor, and get his/her input on your body shape, and take the doctor's advice for a healthy lifestyle!

You mean as in thinking you look too skinny if in reality you are fat? I would say yes. But it's rare.
You're funny.
Oh, I just read the part about your sisters. That's what sisters are for.

Tell them to stop calling you fat.. it's wrong and it is degrading. It's wonderful that you can look in the mirror and love yourself. as long as you are healthy, who cares?

You're talking about perception. You may be a normal person and people will tell you you're overweight.

What you need is a calculator for determining your body mass index. Here's a useful site that will determine if you're overweight - underweight - or average..

"Fat" and "huge" are hopelessly subjective definitions. Find out what your BMI (Body Mass Index) is and see where you stand on the obesity scale:

Alternatively, have your body fat content measured...
