i found many different answers and im not sure which are correct. please help!!!! for a paper due tomorrow!!!!

redhotbox is right....to an extent. The officials wanted to understate the casualties so people would want to rebuild the city. Some think as many as 10,000 folks died in the fires that consumed the city after the quake. Bad pub would not gaurantee funding to rebuild, so the deaths were not counted or reported.

The real answer is unknown, due to the devistation in the parts of San Francisco that were overcrowded, the real death total was never found out for sure. At best they are a guess. Pick one but say that it is only an estimate as the correct toll was never found for sure.
