Eighteenth Century perceptions of the Roman Republic inspired contemporary political philosophers. In fact we now understand that very little about the Roman Republic ( so called ) was properly understood in the Eighteenth Century when the US was founded.

The poltical thoughts & philosophy as espoused by Plato & subsequently by Cicero in "The Republic".

Also, the Romans were the originators of the 3 branches of the government.
