I like the books, and the movies are okay, but I hate how everybody talks about them, and just keeping talking and talking and talking....... why can't they talk about Mercedes Lackey books instead? or Robert Jordan? or Diane Duane? They are much better authors, and yet everybody loves J.K.Rowling!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GOD YES. I read the books, but only because of the hype.
They're not that good. Yes, they're written pretty well, but they're not that crazily amazing. Rowling isn't even that inventive and new.
Think of all those other books kids could be reading when they read the Harry Potter series ten times over.
And I often wonder if people will remember her books in 100 years time, like most of the other "classics".

Kinda. I mean the books are a good read but they aren't the Mecca of reading. I know some crazy Harry Potter fans and they get irritating because ever thing relates back to them.

Every one I know (including my own wife!) seems to be addicted to the whole Harry Potter fad... I can understand why, and I must congradulate the WB studios for also producing fine film representation, but my opinion is simple; over-exposed, over-marketed, and over commercialised...
It is like Star Wars, about one month before the film(s) is released; massive monstrous promotional campaign, making you "sick" and tired of the product before it even becomes available!

No. It's nice to have easy updates of your favorite authors. I wish there was an entire book section on the news just so I could hear how writers are doing. It also lets authors in this case Rowling know that she's appreciated and she's not working her fingers off just for herself. Writers need that kind of appreciation.

I used to like HP, but now I don't. Everyone is reading it and talking about it and good books aren't getting the reconigtion they deserve!
