Remove any icons from your desktop such as spreadsheets etc that can be placed in your documents folder. Empty recyle bin. Delete tempory internet download files via control panel, internet options. Press control alt delete and look at processes, other than system idle, no other process should remain over say 75%. If one exists... highlight it and end process. Defragment (could take a long time depending on size of drive, but well worth doing). Right click my computer, select properties, then advanced tab. Try changing some of the options here! Increase RAM if better performance is still required.

You can increase the Virtual Memory for better performance. This will use the hard drive space if you run out of memory.
To do this right click on my computer and select properties and select the advanced tab at the top. Click on the settings button under Performance and then click on the advanced tab at the top and click on the change button at the bottom under virtual memory. Make sure the Custom size is selected and under maximum size (mb) type in a value in mb say about 10000 and click set. So if your memory runs out it will use your hard drive space of upto 10gb for memory management

sounds like you need more cache (RAM) and you can double it by adding another card to your exspanion slots, the ones that are vertical on your motherboard..say you have 128 MB of ram and add another card with 128 you will have 256 and if you have 256 and add a 256 you will have 512 which is very good! If you are speaking of virtual memory then that is a completely a different animal!!! check your system to see how much virtual mem. you have. good luck to you.

your virtual memory is used up by things running on your comp if u have allot of things running on start-up (look near your clock if theres allot of icons there) these all use your virtual memory . u can stop programs from running on start-up by cleaning them using search it on google it is a good prog and easy to use and safe unlike some reg-cleaners and free ! there will b a page with a free download install it and run it go to start-up list at the top and select the things u don't need to run on start-up . this will free up virtual memory
